The Scadd Draft Shape Library contains all the AISC shapes. To access the AISC Steel dialog box click on the Steel menu, then the AISC shape. The following dialog box will appear. In this case the W shape was selected, therefore only the AISC Wide flange shapes are shown. For other shapes, click on there respective buttons or menu items.
This dialog box allows you to draw AISC shapes from three view points, three insert points as well as hatching and a break option.
Keep a list of frequently used shapes in the Favorites list.
To add a shape to the favorites list:
Highlight the size of the shape you wish to add in the size list.
Click on the <- button underneath the favorites list.
To remove a shape from the favorites list:
Highlight the size of the shape you wish to remove from the favorites list.
Click on the -> button underneath the favorites list.
Tip: you can start drawing the shape in the favorites list by double-clicking on the shape.

Section: Draws a section of the shape.
Top: Draws the top view of the shape.
Side: Draws the side view of the shape.
Note: Different options will enable and/or disable depending on the view point selected.
Top: Draws the shape with the top as the insertion point when placing object into drawing.
Center: Draws the shape with the center as the insertion point when placing object into drawing.
Bottom: Draws the shape with the bottom as the insertion point when placing object into drawing.
This edit box allows the user to search for the desired shape. Just type in the shape designation or just a portion ie: W24 and the first matching shape will be highlighted. Click on the shape and the detailing properties will appear below the edit box.
Hatch: (section view only)
On - Draw steel hatching.
Off - Omit steel hatching.
Break: (side view only)
On - Draws a break annotation line at second point selected.
Off - Draws the full beam from end to end.
Tip: Note the command line option Settings when drawing the shape. This option will let you choose a gap or offset from the reference points. Typically, when drawing with a viewpoint of side or top, a gap of 1/2" is used from the start and end points.
